Bord Gais have entered into the electricity market, with a guarantee to be 10% cheaper than ESB prices for 10 years.
- They have entered residential market and are looking at taking a large share of customers from the ESB.
- That is 10% cheaper, no matter how much the ESB cuts prices.
- You can join up by phoning the company or by going online.
- Bord Gais is looking at snapping up 1 million of the 1.8 million electricity customers in Ireland.
- Bord Gáis Chief Executive John Mullins says there is no penalty to switch back to the ESB if any customer wants to.
- Mullins believes that a 25% fall in gas prices is on the cards by December of this year.
- The ESB released a statement this morning, stating that the ESB has its hands tied when it comes to cutting price, as prices were set by the Commission for Energy Regulation.
Hmmm thats an easy decision for me, when I get home, I will call Bord Gais and sign over to them, good news in Ireland’s toughening economy.

Sounds good – but it is silly that the regulator is stopping ESB from lowering prices. Comreg last week told Eircom to increase prices on some broadband packages ! What are these regulators trying to do?
